I try to reuse or re-purpose all computers or parts that are still functional, and properly send the rest to be recycled in a responsible manner. This assures that all recycled materials re-enter the manufacturing stream and thus stays out of landfills. I do not ship to any overseas companies for recycling. All materials not recycled locally are recycled with a certified R2 facility.
You don't have to worry about personal information or any other sensitive data stolen from your hard drives or any other media devices. I use a DoD (Department of Defense) compliant software program to wipe clean all devices of all data before resale or recycling. I do this whether requested to or not. I also offer the option of destroying your hard drive, thereby rendering them unreadable and unusable.
